Famous for its imposing modernist architecture and the great epic of its laborious pioneers, Brasília is also a city born of geographical planning. Even before the models outlined the monumentality of Brasília and the builders traversed its territory, this city already appeared in the national cartographic projections. This strategy would allow the cautious identification of the ideal space to erect the capital of Brazilians. It is more than fair, therefore, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Brasília – a city transposed from maps to materiality – with the updating of the Atlas of the Federal District. If in the past, the efforts of great scientists such as Luís Cruls guided the national integration project through the demarcation of the future capital, the new edition of this Atlas, prepared since 1984 by the Federal District Planning Company – Codeplan, is an indispensable intellectual subsidy to face the […]

The Federal District Atlas is part of activities traditionally developed by Codeplan (Federal District Planning Company). Released in 1984, its first version filled a gap in the introduction to the study of the Federal District and its territory, bringing great relevance information about environmental, social and economic aspects. The Atlas information was updated in 2017 to a more didactic way. Seeking a language of easy comprehension, but there was no circulation and formatting for this version dissemination. Codeplan proposed to continue this project in 2020, not only by updating its information. Codeplan innovates by proposing new content and modernizing data presentation, transforming the Atlas into two products: an attractive publication and an interactive virtual tool. Partnerships have been held with the International Affairs Office and the Tourism State Office. In this way, the Federal District Government understands Brasília as an international destination and relies on the Atlas as a tool […]

The 21st century has its beginning marked by intense connection and friction movements between different societies. Far from being something new, the phenomenon is only gaining speed. This is because today we are able to produce and consume huge data amounts on algorithms-mediated platforms. These relationships effects are felt mainly in the cities, where the social experience happens for most of the planet population. The cities acquire distinct characteristics, to the point of developing their own socio-cultural traits, which influence even the way they relate to each other, whether by cooperating or competing. Central point of this dynamic relationship, data, inputs for information, require care, refinement and promptness in its production. This is the quality expressed in this work, through which Codeplan, in fulfilling its mission to translate Federal District realities, gives us a formidable tool for building public policies based on evidence. The dimensions presented in the Atlas help […]

It is a satisfaction for the Secretariat of Tourism to act in partnership with Codeplan in the planning and strengthening of our federal capital. It is fundamental to continue with the Federal District Atlas and think about the future, aiming to transform the material into an interactive, educative and easily accessible tool to the citizen. It is through atlas that we can distinguish Federal District recognition, challenging the population to appropriate the knowledge about the reality experienced. The Federal District has life, soul of its own, nature, parks, monuments and a wonderful Lake. We have the Cerrado, that with its rich fauna and flora is the second largest biome in South America and has one of the world’s largest biodiversity. In addition to the environmental aspects, it also has great social importance, as many populations survive from its natural resources. And an atlas is much more than a set of […]
