The urban areas of Planaltina and Brazlândia, respectively founded in 1859 and 1933, existed before the transfer of the capital. During the construction of Brasilia, new housing areas were created to lodge the laborers. In 1956, the Cidade Livre was founded, later named Núcleo Bandeirante; Vila Paranoá was camp of workers who came to build the Paranoá Lake dam in 1957, and there they remained; the city of Taguatinga was founded in 1958 to house workers who came for work on the capital; Cruzeiro was founded in 1959 to house public employees who were transferred to Brasilia; Gama was inaugurated in 1960 to accommodate workers transferred from the Plano Piloto, as was Sobradinho, also founded in 1960. The Integrated Region for of Development of the Federal District and Surroundings – Ride-Federal District was created by Complementary Law 94/1998, regulated by Decree 7.469/2011, and broadened by Complementary Law 163/2018. Ride-Federal District is composed of the Federal District, three municipalities in the state of Minas Gerais and 30 municipalities in the state of Goiás. Regions constituted based on the grouping of two or more municipalities, involving two or more units of the federation, instituted by complementary federal law, with the objective of articulating and harmonizing administrative action by the Union, states and municipalities. The Metropolis Statute (Law 13.089/2015) defines the metropolitan area as the “representation of the continuous expansion of the urban grid of the metropolis, joined by the integration of the road system, including, especially, housing, services and industrial areas with the presence of commuter traffic in the territory”. The Brasilia Metropolitan Area – AMB was defined by Codeplan in Technical Report 01/2014. The AMB is formed by the Federal District and its surrounding area, constituted by 12 surrounding municipalities (also members of Ride-Federal District) that have flow and relations with the Federal District of a metropolitan nature.
